USD 225 Names New Superintendent

Cherie Nicholson begins leadership of USD 225 on July 1, 2020.

March 17, 2020

The USD 225 Board of Education has announced the selection of Cherie Nicholson, as the new superintendent. Mrs. Nicholson will take the reins on July 1, 2020, at the end of the 2019-20 school year.

Mrs. Nicholson has broad educational experience, as a teacher, administrator and an educator of educators.

Students in our schools succeed because they are quality students focused on preparing for their future. We feel our staff and administration support student learning and educational opportunities that will ensure they prepare for career or college.

Board President TJ Milford says that Cherie Nicholson emerged from a very thorough search process as the right candidate to lead the District. Milford explained that community input, including the involvement of a committee of stakeholders was a key factor in the success of the superintendent search process. The committee included teachers and administrators, parents, and community members.  “The input from the community as a whole was very helpful to our process.”

As a board team we feel we made the right selection to serve our students and our community.

Cherie Nicholson's Biography

My husband and I are excited to be moving back to southwest Kansas and being part of the community and school family of Fowler. I was raised in southwest Kansas and followed an educational career in the area until the early 90’s when my husband and I moved to eastern Kansas where his family was located. We have three grown children and recently became grandparents. I have family that currently resides in Meade County. I have experience in administration at the building and district levels. I have served as an Educational Consultant for the State of Kansas, spent time on various committees, and have written grants as time allowed. I enjoy working with educators and look forward to the opportunity of being the Superintendent of Schools for USD 225.
