Mrs. Lang, the forensics teacher, is excited for 2012 school year forensics season to start since she has goals for herself but also for her students.

Lang said, “My goal is to take five kids to state this year and to find time for everything since she teaches English and speech as well. Mrs. Lang applied to be the forensics teacher since she wanted to work with students who wanted to be in forensics this year. “Seems like an exciting opportunity to work with the students,” said Lang when asked why she accepted the job offer. In order to be certified to teach forensics, Lang had to have a bachelor’s of arts in communications. Lang’s job includes helping students find pieces they can perform at the meets and helping them to perfect their pieces.  She also makes sure each piece is in the right performance category and that it is the appropriate length.  “I enjoy seeing the kids do something they normally wouldn’t do,” said Lang.

Keighley Miller participated in forensics her freshman year and is participating again. Miller currently is competing in prose but later wants to do an original oration, which is an original piece made by herself. “They’re a blast, and everyone is excited to be there,” said Miller about the forensics meets she has attended.  The only thing she dislikes is that they go so late.

Her best memory from forensics is being Skylar Villanueva’s partner and making new friends which she looks forward to doing this year. Miller prepares herself by finding pieces that relate to her, or she just finds pieces from books she enjoys reading. Miller practices her works, but she just likes to just go for it. “Many people go out for prose, but I do it since it gives me a goal to achieve this year since it’s harder to go to state,” said Miller.

Grayle Bartlett, who joined this year, is in his first year of forensics. He is excited to be in forensics this year because it’s fun to do. Bartlett does a humorous solo, where he acts out a funny piece called “How Angel Peterson Got His Name.” He gets his ideas from MTV and then prepares himself by memorizing the piece.

Miller said,” If you want to have fun and have nothing to do just go out for forensics.”
