USD #225 Board of Education Meeting

May 9, 2022, 7:00 P.M.  


 

Call to order:  T.J. Milford, Board President, called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  Pledge of Allegiance was recited and Copenhaver led a prayer. 

Members present: TJ Milford, Cathy Heinz, Fred Boyd, Kim Copenhaver, Dana Bartezko & Jeff Zortman were present. Others present were Cherie Nicholson, Superintendent, Erica Littlewood, Board Clerk, and Corri McDowell, Principal. 

Recognition of Visitors/Communication: Cord Moss, Kim McLachlan, and Debbie Wise

Approve Consent Agenda: Copenhaver moved, seconded by Boyd to approve the Consent Agenda. Motion carried 6-0.

Milford moved, seconded by Zortman to approve the minutes from April 11, 2022, and April 18, 2022. Motion carried 6-0.

DISCUSSION

School Picture Companies – Milford moved, seconded by Heinz to approve for administration to research new photography companies for 2022-23 school year. Motion carried 6-0.

Devices for Seniors – Heinz moved, seconded my Boyd to allow the 2022 senior class to purchase their school Chromebook for $50 and Laptop for $200. Motion carried 6-0.

2022-2023 School Week – Heinz moved, seconded by Copenhaver to approve USD 225 remain on a 4-day school week for the 2022-23 school year. Motion carried 6-0.

2022-2023 School Calendar – Milford moved, seconded by Copenhaver to approve the 4-day calendar as presented for the 2022-23 school year. Motion carried 6-0.

Preschool Program – Zortman moved, seconded by Boyd to offer half-day preschool during the 2022-2023 school year, 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Motion carried 6-0.

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION

Milford moved, seconded by Boyd to go into executive session for 10 minutes to discuss non-elected personnel under KOMA, board, McDowell, and Nicholson. This session is required to protect the privacy interests of the individual(s) to be discussed. Motion carried 6-0. 8:03 p.m.

Milford moved, seconded by Boyd to go back into executive session for 2 minutes. Motion carried 6-0. 8:14 p.m.

Milford moved, seconded by Copenhaver to go into executive session for 15 minutes to discuss the exception for data relating to financial affairs under KOMA, board and Nicholson. Motion carried 6-0. 8:20 p.m.

Milford moved, seconded by Copenhaver to go back into executive session for 5 minutes. Motion carried 6-0. 8:36 p.m.

Milford moved, seconded by Heinz to go back into executive session for 5 minutes. Motion carried 6-0. 8:41 p.m.

Milford moved, seconded by Heinz to go back into executive session for 3 minutes. Motion carried 6-0. 8:47 p.m.

Milford moved, seconded by Heinz to go into executive session for 15 minutes to discuss employer-employee negotiations under KOMA for 15 minutes, board, McDowell, and Nicholson. This session is required to protect the privacy interests of the individual(s) to be discussed. Motion carried 6-0. 8:52 p.m.

Milford moved, seconded by Heinz to go back into executive session for 7 minutes. Motion carried 6-0. 9:08 p.m.

Milford moved, seconded by Copenhaver to go back into executive session for 10 minutes. Motion carried 6-0. 9:16 p.m.

Milford moved, seconded by Copenhaver to go back into executive session for 7 minutes. Motion carried 6-0. 9:27 p.m.

 

 

 

 

 

PERSONNEL 

2022-2023 Staff – Milford moved, seconded by Boyd to approve the following staff for the 2022-23 school year:

Kimberly McLachlan, Cord Moss, Donna Norman, and Debbie Wise

Stephanie Baez, Wayne Behring, Casey Cooley, Cassandra Goff, Erica Littlewood, Yolanda Perez, Lisa Rosebeary, and Tammy Smith.

Motion carried 6-0.

Resignation – Copenhaver moved, seconded by Zortman to accept the resignation of (Kimberly) Spring Sellars, Matthew Thomas, and Quenton Rucker effective June 30, 2022. Motion carried 6-0.

New Hire – Milford moved, seconded by Boyd to approve Jessica Pearson as an elementary teacher for the 2022-2023 school year. Motion carried 6-0.

K.S.A. 75-4301a – Board members were asked to complete a Member Statement of Substantial Interests for Local Office.

Adjournment – Heinz moved, seconded by Copenhaver to adjourn meeting. Motion carried 6-0 9:54 p.m.
