February 8, 2016 BOE meeting minutes

Regular Board Of Education Meeting

Monday, February 8, 2016      7:00 p.m.

 

 

 

Call to order:  Courtney Wilson, president, called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  Steve Lundeen led a prayer.

 

Members present:   Mark Bergkamp, Richie Dewell, Erica Littlewood, Steve Lundeen, Tim Milford, Barbara Whitney and Courtney Wilson were present.  Others present were Tom Dolenz, Superintendent/PK-12 Principal and Brenda Wenta, Clerk.

 

Recognition of Visitors/Communication:  Mike Heiland, Dave Weber, Laura Devine, Kat Market, Kraig Westhoff, Kimberly Copenhaver. 

 

Approve Agenda: Littlewood moved, seconded by Bergkamp to approve the printed agenda.  Motion carried 7-0.

 

Approve Minutes: Littlewood moved, seconded by Whitney to approve the regular meeting minutes of January 11, 2016.  Motion carried 7-0.

 

Accounts Payable: Milford moved, seconded by Bergkamp to approve the accounts payable as presented.  Motion carried 7-0.

                        Laurie Devine, counselor, presented the Kansas Assessment program test results. Kraig Westhoff presented a social studies textbook he would like to purchase. Mr. Dolenz spoke on the savings of the 4 day school week, Legislative House Bill 2504(realignment of school districts), additional cost from A & A exterminating for spraying of ants, the need for a better firewall, pre-school grant, migrant program, athletic numbers.

 

Mitsubishi equipment:  Dave Weber and Mike Heiland presented a service agreement on the Mitsubishi equipment located at the Dome.

 

Senior Trip:  Kat Market, senior class sponsor, presented the itinerary of the senior trip to Galveston, Texas.

 

Clay Target League:  Kimberly Copenhaver presented a request to form a clay target league.  A motion by Whitney, seconded by Dewell to approve the league using the name of Fowler, with no cost to the district.  Motion carried 7-0.

 

Executive Session:  Milford moved, Lundeen seconded to enter into executive session to discuss personnel matters of nonelected personnel in order to protect the privacy interests of the individual(s) to be discussed and that the board return to open session in the board room at 8:40 p.m. Motion carried 7-0.  Board Members only were present.  Time:  8:25

 

A motion was made and seconded to extend the above executive session by 10 minutes to 8:50.  Motion carried 7-0.  Board members only were present.  Time: 8:40

A motion was made and seconded to extend the above executive session by 20 minutes to 9:11.  Motion carried 7-0.  Board members and Mr. Dolenz were present.  Time: 8:51

A motion was made and seconded to extend the above executive session by 20 minutes to 9:32.  Motion carried 7-0.  Board members and Mr. Dolenz were present.  Time: 9:12

A motion was made and seconded to extend the above executive session by 15 minutes to 9:48.  Motion carried 7-0.  Board members and Mr. Dolenz were present.  Time: 9:33

A motion was made and seconded to extend the above executive session by 10 minutes to 9:59.  Motion carried 7-0.  Board members and Mr. Dolenz were present.  Time: 9:49

              

Personnel:  A motion was made by Milford, seconded by Whitney to approve Michelle Channell as a substitute teacher.  Motion carried 7-0.

 

Executive session:  Dewell moved, Bergkamp seconded to enter into executive session to discuss negotiations in order to protect the public interest in negotiating a fair and equitable contract and that the board return to open session in the board room at 10:15 p.m.  Motion carried 7-0.  Board members, Mr. Dolenz were present.  Time:  10:05 pm.

 

Negotiations:  A motion by Milford, seconded by Whitney to approve the negotiation letter to the Fowler Teacher’s Association as presented.  Motion carried 7-0.

 

Adjournment:  A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting.  Motion carried 7-0.  Time:  10:17 p.m.
