USD #225 Board of Education Special Meeting

May 17, 2021, 7:00 P.M.  

 

 

Call to order:  T.J. Milford, Board President, called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  Pledge of Allegiance was recited and there was a moment of silence.

Members present: Fred Boyd, Ed Rarden, Tom Huelskamp, Cathy Heinz, and T.J. Milford were present. Others present were Cherie Nicholson, Superintendent, Corri McDowell, Principal, and Erica Littlewood, Board Clerk.

Kimberly Copenhaver arrived 7:02 p.m.

Recognition of Visitors/Communication: Jenny Faurot, Emily Dizmang, Derrick Dizmang, Charlie Littlewood, Caty Zortman, Jeff Zortman, Dennis McDowell, Ashley Boe, David Adams, and Janice Brock.      

DISCUSSION

Activities Coop – Mrs. Nicholson led a discussion on co-oping with neighboring districts and various options for Fowler. 

FOOTBALL – Rarden moved, seconded by Milford to play high school football at Fowler for the 2021-2022 school year with a transition to co-op for the 2022-2023 school year. Motion carried 7-0.

BASEBALL – Copenhaver moved, seconded by Weber to request a cooperative agreement with Minneola in baseball in the 2022-2023 school year if it becomes available. Motion carried 7-0.

HS TRACK – Weber moved, seconded by Huelskamp to keep HS track with Fowler. Motion carried 5-2.

JH TRACK – Copenhaver moved, seconded by Heinz to keep JH track at Fowler. Motion carried 7-0.

CROSS COUNTRY – Rarden moved, seconded by Copenhaver to request a cooperative agreement with Meade in Cross Country. Motion carried 7-0.

HS VOLLEYBALL – High school volleyball is in a current cooperative agreement with Meade for the 2021-2022 school year. No motion needed.

GOLF – Weber moved, seconded by Copenhaver to request a cooperative agreement with Meade for the 2022-2023 school year. Motion carried 7-0.

CO-OP JH & HS SPORTS – Heinz moved, seconded by Milford to request a cooperative agreement with Meade for JH & HS Volleyball, JH & HS Basketball, JH Football for the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023. Motion carried 6-1.

CHEER – Milford moved, seconded by Weber to have JH and HS cheer in Fowler for the football season and request a cooperative agreement with Meade for the basketball season. Motion carried 7-0.

Negotiations – Copenhaver and Huelskamp provided an update in teacher and superintendent meetings. Next teacher meeting is May 27, 2021. Discussion only.

EXECUTIVE SESSION

Milford moved, seconded by Huelskamp to go into executive session for 30 minutes to discuss non-elected personnel under KOMA, board, principal, and superintendent. This session is required to protect the privacy interests of the individual(s) to be discussed. Motion carried 7-0. 8:31 p.m.

 

Milford moved, seconded by Heinz to go into executive session for 15 minutes to discuss data relating to financial affairs under KOMA; board, principal, and superintendent. Motion carried 7-0. 9:15 p.m.

DISTRICT BUSINESS

Classified Staff Agreements: Heinz moved, seconded by Boyd to move at will agreement period from July 1 to June 30 of each school year period. Motion carried 7-0.

Board Clerk:  Huelskamp moved, seconded by Copenhaver to approve the continuation of Erica Littlewood as Board Clerk for the 21-22 school term as presented. Motion carried 7-0.

District Treasurer: Boyd moved, seconded by Copenhaver to approve the continuation of Vicki McDowell as Treasurer for the 21-22 school term as presented. Motion carried 7-0.

Auditor: Copenhaver moved, seconded by Huelskamp to approve the continuation of Pat Friess and Kennedy, McKee and Associates as auditors for the 21-22 school term as presented. Motion carried 7-0.

Legal Representation:  Heniz moved, seconded by Weber to approve the continuation of KASB as legal representation for the 21-22 school term as presented for the 21-22 school term. Motion carried 7-0.

PERSONNEL

Emergency Sub Waiver – Milford moved, seconded by Weber to discontinue the extension of emergency substitute waivers for the 21-22 school year for USD 225. Motion carried 7-0.

Certified Staff – Milford moved, seconded by Copenhaver to employ the certified staff as presented for the 21-22 school year maintaining a current license.

David Adams, Jennifer Faurot, Brittany Huckaby, Kimberly McLachlan, Donna Norman, Grace Powell, Quenton Rucker, Kimberly Spring Sellars, and Debra Wise.

Motion carried 7-0.

Transition to Teaching Staff – Milford moved, seconded by Huelskamp to employ the following T to T certified staff as presented for the 21-22 school year.

Cord Moss and Boyd Peterson II

Motion carried 7-0.

Summer Help – Approval of student summer help.

Adjournment – Huelskamp moved, seconded by Copenhaver to adjourn meeting. Motion carried 7-0 9:32 p.m.
