USD #225 Board of Education Special Meeting

May 17, 2022, 7:00 P.M.  


 

Call to order:  T.J. Milford, Board President, called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  Pledge of Allegiance was recited and Zortman led a prayer. 

Members present: TJ Milford, Cathy Heinz, Fred Boyd, Kim Copenhaver & Jeff Zortman were present. Others present were Cherie Nicholson, Superintendent, and Erica Littlewood, Board Clerk.

Dana Bartezko was not present.

Recognition of Visitors/Communication: Randy Leis, Jan Brock, and Dana Waters (arrived at 8:00 p.m.)

 

DISCUSSION

High School Lease Potential – Heinz moved, seconded by Milford to lease the high school classrooms on the first level for business opportunities on an annual basis for the 2022-23 SY. Motion carried 5-0.

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION

Milford moved, seconded by Heinz to go into executive session for 30 minutes to discuss non-elected personnel under KOMA, board and Nicholson. This session is required to protect the privacy interests of the individual(s) to be discussed. Motion carried 5-0. 7:01 p.m.

Milford moved, seconded by Zortman to go back into executive session for 10 minutes. Motion carried 5-0. 7:32 p.m.

Milford moved, seconded by Heinz to go back into executive session for 5 minutes. Motion carried 5-0. 7:43 p.m.

Copenhaver moved, seconded by Heinz to go back into executive session for 10 minutes. Motion carried 5-0. 7:49 p.m.

Milford moved, seconded by Copenhaver to go into executive session for 15 minutes to discuss the exception for data relating to financial affairs under KOMA, board and Nicholson, with Randy Leis, Jan Brock, and Dana Waters. Motion carried 5-0. 8:03 p.m.

Milford moved, seconded by Copenhaver to go back into executive session for 10 minutes. Motion carried 5-0. 8:18 p.m.

Milford moved, seconded by Copenhaver to go into executive session for 15 minutes to discuss non-elected personnel under KOMA, board and Nicholson. This session is required to protect the privacy interests of the individual(s) to be discussed. Motion carried 5-0. 8:33 p.m.

Milford moved, seconded by Heinz to go back into executive session for 15 minutes. Motion carried 5-0. 8:49 p.m.

Milford moved, seconded by Copenhaver to go back into executive session for 10  minutes. Motion carried 5-0. 9:04 p.m.

Milford moved, seconded by Zortman to go back into executive session for 7 minutes. Motion carried 5-0. 9:15 p.m.

 

PERSONNEL 

Superintendent – Boyd moved, seconded by Heinz to hire Jamie Wetig as the Superintendent of Record for the 2022-2023 school year (July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023). Motion carried 5-0.

Resignation – Zortman moved, seconded by Copenhaver to accept the resignation of Stephanie Baez effective May 31, 2022. Motion carried 5-0.

Maintenance – Zortman moved, seconded by Heinz to move the district’s current maintenance employee from probationary to permanent status. Motion carried 5-0.

Board Clerk – Copenhaver moved, seconded by Milford to approve a salary increase for the current district board clerk. Motion carried 6-0.

Band – Milford moved, seconded by Zortman to approve the cooperative agreement with USD 226 and Ashley Boe for 5th/6th grade band. Motion carried 5-0.

Paraprofessional – Milford moved, seconded by Heinz to hire Dolce De Avila as a paraprofessional for the 2022-2023 school year. Motion carried 5-0.

Adjournment – Zortman moved, seconded by Boyd to adjourn meeting. Motion carried 5-0 9:28 p.m.
